Kumar Sangakkara is the Man of the Match for his splendid knock of 101 off just 91 balls. He also grabbed two catches and effected one stumping.

This has been a clinical performance by the Sri Lankans, a complete all-round display from them and this has truly been a fabulous way to start off their Asia Cup campaign. They batted beautifully to post a daunting total and they won half their battle in the innings break itself. Bangladesh never got off to a good start and they lost wickets far too regularly to settle well in the run-chase. One would throw a lot of questions at the Bangladeshi skipper so as to why he chose to field first on a track which had absolutely nothing in it for the bowlers. Once again, the batting failed for the Bangladeshis and this is high time that they do some serious thinking to get their act together.

Swashbuckling Kumar Sangakkara put Bangladesh bowlers to the sword with a brilliant hundred to lift Sri Lanka to 357-9 in their Asia Cup Group B match here on Wednesday. The 30-year-old left-hander notched 101 for his seventh one-day hundred to propel the defending champions who won the toss and decided to bat on a placid Gaddafi Stadium pitch. Sangakkara hit 16 boundaries during his 91-ball knock and shared a 116-run stand for the opening wicket with Sanath Jayasuriya (72) as the Islanders went on the rampage right from the word go. Both the left-handers matched each other stroke for stroke as Sri Lanka completed 100 runs by the 14th over before left-arm spinner Abdur Razak ended Jayasuriya's innings, bowling him with a straighter one. Jaysauriya hit ten boundaries and three sixes during his fiery 47-ball knock. Sangakkara, who hit five boundaries in Dolar Mahmud's third over, added 54 runs for the second wicket skipper Mahela Jayawardene but so one-sided was his domination during the partnership that his skipper managed just six. Sangakkara finally holed out off medium pacer Mahmudullah Riyad in the 28th over and passed the baton to Chamara Kapugedera who smashed a 67-ball 74. Kapugedera and Chamara Silva (19) added 53 more runs for the fourth wicket before Bangladesh stopped the run rampage, taking three wickets in the space of 33 runs. Kapugedera hit five boundaries and two towering sixes. Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak finished with 3-55. Mahmud conceded 49 runs off just three overs.
